In 1979 George & Pam Ridley arrived in Bletchley to take over a fledgling church. Milton Keynes the new city had just begun its new life with the first estates being built. The church owned a little wooden hut and a little money in the bank and the loyalty of a handful of attenders.
George
& Pam had a desire to build a significant city church that would meet
both the practical and spiritual needs of its community. Over the next few
years, as the church grew in numbers, it out grew its first home in Bletchley.
With Milton Keynes taking shape George took the step of moving the church
to the heart of the new city. Firstly it moved to a meeting place in Eaglestone
and when that became too small the church moved to Woughton Campus.
It was now time for New City Pentecostal Church (as it was known at the time) to build a home of its own. That is when we took possession of our current site here in Oldbrook. Initially we built an auditorium, offices, bookshop and small Nursery.
Over the next few years we added a purpose built day nursery and accommodation unit.
Meeting the practical needs of our
community was always an important part of George’s dream for Milton
Keynes Christian Centre and many of our activities are designed with this
in mind. The Day Nursery, Fusion – After Schools Project, Frantic –
Children’s Club, Extreme – Youth Club, Time out – Senior
Citizens Clubs and Eclipse – Addiction counselling and MK Foodbank all
form part of our community activities and services.
A few years ago George & Pam handed the leadership of Milton Keynes Christian Centre over to Mark & Alison Sherratt. Mark was invited to join the leadership of the centre by George a number of years earlier and they reached the point where they felt the time was right to make a transition in leadership. Mark assumed leadership of the church and George was freed to pursue the opportunities that had opened up to us overseas through our missions arm LightForce International.
